Today I thought I would let you in on a little secret. This is something I have discovered over the past year and a half -- I have realized that there is one thing I really dislike doing. For most, it probably does not bother them but for me it sure does. After a long and crazy night of being up with Hugo a number of times [which happens often at our house], I have such a hard time waking him up in the morning. Especially when he is just so deep in his sleep and so nice and comfy.
Byron has that magical way of getting the Lil Man to wake up without him ending up being a grouch for the rest of the day. Me on the other hand, I seem to be lacking that skill. So this week I tried to follow Byron's 3 steps.
I opened the blind to his room and let in the bright sunlight. I then went to him and in a soft voice said "Hugo it is time to get up Buddy ..." but nothing. I then repeated those eight words a couple times and Roxy even decided to bark once and he just continued sleeping [he gets that from his dad].
I still had a couple minutes before he had to wake up so I had a bright idea ... I will snap some photos of him sleeping in his Glow-in-the-Dark PJ's ... that will wake him up. When I returned to his room I noticed Roxy was getting a bit concerned and she was checking on him. She was probably wondering why that little Human that is always chasing her around was not moving. It was funny watching her and also nice to see that she loves him.
I turned on the flash and started to snap away. The camera and flash noise did not do anything, he was still in a deep sleep. He sleeps in the weirdest positions and makes such a mess of his bed ...
So I tried again "Hugo it is time to get up Buddy ..." but this time I also rubbed his back. After doing that for about five times, he decided to be nice to me and woke up very very slowly. If only he knew why I was waking him up for. I think he would have probably pretended to be sleeping to avoid it.
On Monday I took Hugo in for his 18 month check up and he was such a big boy when they gave him his shot. He did not even cry even though you could tell it hurt. He just pulled at his arm [it was obviously hurting him] and held it, like he always does if something is hurting him. Such a brave little guy. Later in the day I could tell his arm was hurting him and he was not feeling the greatest because he was a bit of a grumpy Gus, but it was to be expected. I also think his 2nd set of molars are starting to come in, as he has started to drool a lot again. It seems a bit early for these guys to be coming through, but like all his other pearly whites, they are probably coming in way ahead of schedule.
