A Visit to the Vet

We finally transferred Roxy to a new vet here in town at the end of April. It only took us 3 years. After we moved we continued to take her to her old vet. It just seemed to be easier, plus they knew her medical background. I think her medical file is probably as big as Byron and my file combined.  Each year I am reminded why I really dislike taking Roxy to the vet.  Lets just say the amount we spent on her vet bill, we could have gone on a really nice weekend getaway, but she's our baby girl and we want to make sure she is healthy. It's a good thing she only has to go once a year. She is a lucky girl that we love her so much.

After her last visit to the vet we had to give her Benadryl after her appointment to ensure she didn't have any allergic reactions to the shots she had to get. She has had a reaction to a shot in the past and it was not fun. We ended up having to take her to the emergency vet clinic because her face swelled up like a balloon and it was extremely scary and super expensive. I must admit when ever I have to give Roxy any type of pill I DREAD IT!! She refuses to eat it. Usually I mix the pill with her food in her bowl and it always amazes me when she eats all the food and manages to leave the pill in the bowl {seriously how does she do it}. I have tried so many different techniques to try and get her to take the pill but nothing seemed to work. I think I have figured it out though. Roxy just LOVES peanut butter. When we finish a container, I always give it to her as a treat to lick before it gets put into recycling {I think if she could crawl into the container she would}...

I took the Benadryl pill and covered it with a bit of peanut butter and let me tell you, I have never seen her eat a pill so quickly with no hesitation {I must remember this for next time}. Thus,  I decided to do a post on this just in case I have a senior's moment and forget for next time.

Do you have any special tips or tricks that work for you? I would love to know what they are.

Boler reno day........ 2 weeks worth

So I have been so busy with the boler I have not had time to document the progress on bitsy. The body is back on the frame and will stay there with the stainless steel bolts I used. Was just #6 screws before so it should be overkill. Got the door off and the opening square and same width top to bottom. I had to pull the bottom in one inch. I was able to do this easily using the cable come along I bought like 5 years ago. Tania says I buy tools and never use them, well this time she was wrong.

Since we also don't plan on having a water tank or sink, I removed the inlet valve and glassed / bondo over the hole. Had to fix a couple other areas to so got that done. I am now at the point of being able to rock gaurd the underside and reinstall the door.

Roxy also just had to check my work and walk on the fresh paint, such a silly girl.

It's a nice feeling seeing all my hard work paying off. Can't wait to take her out for the first trip next month.

Roxy

Just recently I noticed that we do not really post much of our four-legged fur child (aka baby girl) Roxy. I figured she deserves her own post this week especially after she listened to the little boss man on the weekend and ended up looking like this (hehe) ...

When I removed Hugo's bib after he finished eating he wanted it. I figured he wanted to open and close the Velcro part so I gave it to him to play with for a bit. I was wrong however, he opened the Velcro part then walked to Roxy and was trying to put it on her. I obviously had to step in and help and Roxy was a really good girl. She probably knew the chances of him rewarding her with a Cheerio treat was high. (Her relationship with him has become a special one. I think he has started to grow on her). Once the bib was on Roxy, Hugo started laughing, he obviously thought it was very funny.

For five years, Roxy was like an only child and had all of our attention. We brought her home in October 2006 (she was about 3 months old - she was born July 27, 2006). Then in October 2011 it all changed when we brought another human into our home ... a really tiny human who cried and kept mom and dad up throughout the night (and her of course). At first she did not want anything to do with him. She just stayed clear of him. But since he became mobile and started to share his food with her, they have started to become best buds. I swear they take turns driving me crazy. When I finally get Hugo to settle down, usually Roxy will start to cause trouble (i.e. sneak off with one of Hugo's toys or his socks - she really likes them). When he was smaller and I had to give him a bottle, I swear she would wait till I sat down to feed him to start scratching at the back door to go out and then I would let her out and 30 seconds later she wanted back in. Some days she just wants my attention. She has always been good for the most part with staying off my lap when Hugo is awake. Usually the second I sit on the couch once Hugo goes to bed she comes over and jumps on my lap so she can have some cuddle time. Almost every night when I am getting Hugo changed for bed and putting on his PJ, Roxy will come into his room too and lay right beside my feet the entire time.

She loves posing for the camera. I think she is in all our photos that I took of the progression of Hugo's room before he arrived. Here she is saying cheese for the camera last week ...

This past week she has been enjoying the beautiful weather (as have we). She loves sun tanning whether it is on the back deck or the front yard. I can always tell if it is nice out because Roxy will go out and lay on the deck when it is warm outside. Here she is sun tanning while I was trying to remove all the dandelions [a never ending battle] from the front yard on the weekend. ...

Most of all Roxy loves "Car Rides" (you mention these two words once and she will not stop following you around the house. She especially loves Car Rides when she gets to sit in the front passenger side with her window down and the sunroof opened ...

All happy Saturday when she came out with us for a drive.
